Mangrol Khadi

The Mangrol Kasba, situated 26 Km. from Baran district headquarters is famous for its exclusive quality of Tericot-Khadi not only in  Hadoti region but also all over the Rajasthan state. The Mangrol Khadi is very famous in South-Eastern Rajasthan and nearby Madhya Pradesh. There are around 400 handlooms and some Powerlooms in the area. The significant part is that the history of Mangrol Khadi is not very old. The Mangrol Khadi weavers work for Kota-Masoriya sarees producers before 1960 but they get very little salaries for their work and therefore they have come Mangrol and started weaving khadi as an independent worker. The khadi despite of its exclusive quality and very reasonable in price, has not make-up any good market and due to this fact they sale their clothes in temporary-shops on the roads in the Kota and Baran cities. The Mangrol tericot comes in 25-30 rupees per meter. The raw material for the khadi comes from the mandis in Ahemdabad, Nagpur, Udaipur, Bhilwara, Alwar, Kishanganj, Nagda (MP) and Bhawani Mandi. Approximately 2-3 thousand meter cloths is produced in Mangrol per day. Around 4-5 thousand weavers are living in the area.
